Nordic Wolf Hunter Pan Ø24 cm with Folding Wood Handle Carbon Steel
The Hunter Pan by Nordic Wolf has been my go-to for campfire cooking across several bushcraft trips. 24 cm diameter, carbon steel, folding wood handle. For one person it covers everything: breakfast, steaks, a bean stew.
Material and Build#
The carbon steel comes pre-seasoned from the factory. No break-in needed before first use. All edges are cleanly ground, which anyone who has worked with a classic Stabilotherm pan will appreciate. Those can be rough straight out of the box.
The side height is what makes this pan stand out for outdoor cooking. At 3.5 cm, it sits higher than most hunter pans. Sauces, scrambled eggs, a broth-based stew stay in the pan where they belong. Weight is 850 g, which is honest for carbon steel used over an open fire.

Over the Fire#
I have used the Hunter Pan on several trips. At the lavvu bushcraft camp, breakfast was scrambled eggs with bacon and potatoes. The carbon steel heats up fast and distributes evenly across the base. Steaks work just as well. A bean stew with broth would have been impossible in a shallower outdoor pan.
I also recommend the matching pan bag from Nordic Wolf. The pan travels protected and is ready to grab when you need it. Use code KAPPE for 10 % off in the Nordic Wolf shop.
The folding handle locks cleanly in both positions and stays cool over open fire. With regular campfire use, the carbon steel builds up a patina that improves the cooking surface over time. Care is straightforward: wipe clean after use, apply a thin layer of oil before storing.
